Business Value Management  

Technology development is one of the support activities listed in Porter's Value Chain, and it is the ultimate goal of any IT organization to deliver value to the business.  Delivering value is so important that ITIL defines a service as "means of delivering value to customers by facilitating the outcomes customers want to obtain...".   While ITIL indicates that the purpose of an IT service is to deliver value it provides limited guidance on how to actually ensure that any technology investment does actually deliver on its primary objective: value.  Few IT management methodologies actually address the need to understand and quantify the impact of technology on the value creation process of an organization.  

While it sounds simple, getting value correct is frequently one of the most difficult challenges an IT organization will face.  How does IT know that they have successfully delivered value to the business with their technology investments? 

The Baix Framework integrates several key best practices and methodologies to provide an insight into the value derived by a technology investment.  Determining value is critical to the IT investment decision-making process.  

Value is defined by the business and frequently by an individual set of departments or functions inside of the business.  What may be a highly-valued service to one organization may be of limited value to another.  Understanding the unique value-based requirements or the possibilities for value creation through the use of technology must be done in partnership with the business and is one of the core elements of our Customer Discovery Protocol.
